Aura: A luminous multicolored field that some psychics (and Shamans) see surrounding the living body. The term is also used to refer to the normal electromagnetic field surrounding the body.
Automatic writing: A motor automatism in which a person’s hand writes meaningful statements but without the writer consciously premeditating the content of what’s being produced.
Banishing: The act of either through the practitioner or by the name of a deity, to command an unwanted entity or negative energy to leave a person, place or object through ceremony.
Channeling: The apparent process by which a medium allows a spirit to communicate through his/her person.
Clairvoyance: The ability to ascertain information through the seeing of objects or events beyond the natural range of vision and without the use of normal senses (eye vision) or the mind of another person. The view may appear externally e.g. partially replacing the normal visual scene internally in the form of mental imagery. (There is also: Clair-audience: the power to hear sounds said to exist beyond the reach of ordinary experience or capacity, as the voices of the dead; and Con-sentience: the faculty of synthesizing sensations, without the use of the intellect or without consciousness, in reflex or involuntary actions. )
Curses (Hexes, Evil Eye): A verbal, written, or created object designated to do harm to a person or group of people.
Demonic Possession: Possession by evil spirits.
Divination: The art of finding information unknown to the practitioner by occult means. Some tools of divination are: tarot cards, rune stones, bones, tea leaves, pendulum, Ouija board…
Evoking: The inviting of a deity, elemental or preternatural being into yourself in order to take on their characteristics for the ceremony or ritual. It has also been known to bring the practitioners own energy out from within to be utilized in the ritual.
Ghost: A form of apparition usually considered representing the dead. They can appear in forms such as transparent entities, foggy mists and smells.
Invoking: The inviting of a deity, elemental or preternatural being into a ritual circle to assist, protect or enact. Essentially it brings energy outside of the practitioner into the circle for the use of the ritual.
Iron: A metal that has been used to repel a variety of beings in history such as ghosts/demons. Example: an iron horseshoe is hung above the front door to protect the people in the house from ill will and to bring good luck.
Possession: When a person’s body is more or less governed by another personality or entity.
Precognition: The ability to ascertain information about future events without the normal senses and without logical interference. A precognitive dream is one which prophesies or foretells the future.
Residual: The repeat of an event or occurrence that happened before. (eg. Echo’s left behind from the living. Also Death Echo: a ghost that repeatedly reenacts their death, usually occurs where they died.)
Salt: A mineral that can represent either the element of water or earth and is used as a material for protection and cleansing.
Voodoo: A religion practiced chiefly in Caribbean countries, especially Haiti, syncretized from Roman Catholic ritual elements and the animism and magic of slaves from West Africa, in which a supreme God rules a large pantheon of local and tutelary deities, deified ancestors, and saints, who communicate with believers in dreams, trances, and ritual possessions. Also called vodoun.
